East Pye Solar Limited, a 100% subsidiary of IGP UK Projects Limited, is introducing plans for a utility scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project on land near Long Stratton in South Norfolk.
Known as East Pye Solar (the “Scheme”), the development would comprise the installation of ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and a battery energy storage system (BESS) with infrastructure that connects the Scheme to the existing 400kV overhead line. This runs north to south between Norwich Main and Bramford substations.
East Pye Solar is anticipated as being able to deliver up to 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This is enough clean, reliable energy to power approximately 115,000 homes annually. The Scheme will make a significant contribution to meeting national targets to triple solar power to 50 GW by 2030 and decarbonise our electricity systems to reach net zero by 2050. It would also remove reliance on fuel imports, bolstering the UK’s energy security and protecting consumers from price volatility.
The size of the Scheme and potential energy generation means that East Pye Solar is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and must apply for planning permission by submitting an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO). This is determined by the Secretary of State at central government level, with the local authorities hosting the development acting as key consultees in that process.
Where we are now
Targeted Consultation
We are currently consulting on a series of specific changes to the proposals for East Pye Solar. This Targeted Consultation will run from Wednesday 22 October to Wednesday 26 November 2025.
As part of this targeted consultation, we have published a series of new documents, which can be viewed on our Documents page here. This includes our Information Change Note, maps and plans, and our online feedback for the Targeted Consultation.
You can find out more information about the Targeted Consultation here.
Next steps
We will now be reviewing our proposals in light of feedback received so far, including feedback submitted during our Phase Two consultation and this targeted consultation, along with the findings from our ongoing assessments so that we can finalise and submit our application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate. As the developer, we have a duty to demonstrate how we have taken your views into account in developing our final application. The application we submit to the Planning Inspectorate will include a Consultation Report summarising the feedback we received, alongside how we have taken this feedback into consideration in the design of our proposals for East Pye Solar.
We are anticipating submitting the DCO Application in early 2026. This revised submission date allows time for us to consider feedback from the targeted consultation, as well as the results of ongoing design work and environmental assessments.
We will continue to engage with local councils, community groups and technical consultees, and you can continue to get in touch via our communication channels, which can be found at the bottom of this page.
